Brassica
Grant Simpson
– Simpson Contractors, Hawke’s Bay
“Having run a successful contracting business in Hawke’s Bay for the last 35 years,
I gained an early appreciation for Superstrike seed treatment and the benefits it
offers in terms of eliminating risks in brassica crop establishment. Before we started
using Superstrike treated seed we were often blamed for brassica crops which failed
to establish successfully due to factors out of our control, such as insect pressure
from Springtail. In our business we just don’t have time to be going back to resow
paddocks, and instead focus on doing the job right the first time. When we sow brassica
seed we use Superstrike treated seed, something I recommend to all my clients. Using
Superstrike is good value for money and in my opinion it would be a mistake not
to use it.”
Brassica
Tim Kempthorne
– Sheep and beef farmer, Southland
“Winter brassica crops are a big part of our farming programme. We grow about 35 hectares of kale for dairy grazing in addition to 20 hectares of kale, swedes and turnips for our own stock, so we are feeding a lot of animals over the winter months.
We do everything we can to achieve the best possible yields, such as good paddock preparation, fertiliser application and crop protection.
We have been using Ultrastrike Brassica seed treatment for four years because it offers superior all round protection for our young brassica crops.
Ultrastrike is giving us very good early insect cover and this really is one of the key things in achieving good plant establishment and a high yield. This year an Ultrastrike Gruner kale crop weighed in at 17.9 t DM/ha prior to grazing in June.”

Grass
Richard Henderson
– Dairy Farmer, Waikato
“ We have been using Superstrike Grass treatment at Heritage Valley Farms for 5
years and have been very impressed with its performance. Because of the insect challenge
we face from both Black Beetle and Argentine Stem Weevil at sowing time, Superstrike
is an important risk management tool in our regrassing programmes. The pest protection
from Superstrike leads to the rapid establishment of dense and heathly pastures.
All grass seed undersown into old pastures or direct drilled following a brassica
or maize crop is Superstrike treated. At Heritage Valley Farms we are now annually
regreassing 12% of the 300 hectare milking platform with high producing pasture
seed varieties. Superstrike helps protect our investment through reducing the risk
and significant costs associated with poor pasture establishment.”
Clover
Peter Dykes & Mary Witsey
- Dairy Farmer, Southland
“At Miraka Farms we planted 110ha of Superstrike treated clover seed in our recent
dairy development in Southland. The Superstrike Clover was sown with high producing
perennial ryegrass cultivars. The clover establishment has been excellent with a
high proportion of clover present in the pasture sward, which will be very important
in helping drive our future milk production. We recommend sowing Superstrike treated
clover in high production pasture systems.”
